Last week we began competition for the title of champion – in ping pong that is! Yes ladies and gentlemen, the employees of Unicorn Media of the Tempe office have caught ping pong fever. But who will be the champion? I can give you a clue it won’t be me. I was defeated in the first round of the tourney losing the series (the tourney is played using a best-of-three rule) to my opponent Matt. I did have some nice shots here and there but Matt’s game was far superior today then my own – with his wicked top spin – and he was able to advance in the standings. Even though I lost, the most important thing was that I had fun. And in the end, isn’t that what this tournament is all about? To promote and nurture a bond between individuals, colleagues, friends. I say yes.
The tournament has just heated up so please stay tuned for the most up-to-date report on how the employees of the Tempe office are fairing in the ping pong tournament.
I have already written about my love for Swedish indie folk bands, and I've got another one for you.
Under Byen, Danish for "Below the City," was founded in 1995. I would categorize the group as experimental folk; infused with violin, cello, and piano, the group has a seriously unique sound.
Their most recent album, Samme Stof Som Stoff (in English, Same Fabric as Fabric) comes highly recommended...a recommendation which I absolutely second...but today I thought I'd bring you this rendition of "Mission" which comes from their 2002 Album entitled Det Er Mig Der Holder Traeerne Sammen (translated, "It is Me Who Keeps the Trees Together"...lovely, right?)
Nothing soothes my soul on a Monday morning like a little Wallis Bird. The Irish musician is one fantastic lyricist, who never managed to learn how to read or write music.
"When I come up with songs, I don’t write them down, I just play them. I’ve lost a lot of songs from not remembering."
Well it works. Wallis is one lovely musician. Check her out singing "Measuring Cities."
Not a day goes by that I don't read a blog, website, or news article about the incredibly sorry state of the music industry, which notably now includes streaming startups backed by large labels. Many of these companies, too, are now faltering.
With the rise of DIY, social media, and legitimate self-publishing, musicians no longer must chase after large labels looking for the elusive "big deal." I have news folks: that "big deal" you're chasing? It's just not necessary anymore.
At Project Unicorn we have made it our mission to support any and all artists that are tired of banging their collective heads against the wall. So it offends us a little when music sites falter, and artists are left sending out demos and waiting for the phone to ring. An artist's time and work are too precious. His rights are to importnat to just hand over.
The music, film, and entertainment game is changing. Join us in the rEvolution.
Combine five of the world's best bodyboarders with one of the premier bodyboard production companies, and what do you get?-the best bodyboarding movie for 2007.
In There's No 1, Waldron Bros Productions has taken a different approach to your standard bodyboarding movie. Enlisting the skills and personalities of riders Alex Bunting, Ryan Hardy, Dallas Singer, Michael Novy, and Dave Winchester, the aim of this year long project was not only to capture killer bodyboarding action, but to deliver a movie that accurately depicts the lifestyle, camaraderie, and locations in which pro bodyboarders live and travel to.
I'm a notorious failure in the kitchen, (it's bad...real bad) and I gave up attempting to produce anything edible a long time ago.
I won't tell you that this new series suddenly made cooking a simple task for me. It didn't...but it certainly makes it entertaining. Nadia G, the host of Bitchin Kitchen takes her audience through easy, authentic, homemade recipes.
In this episode, Nadia fights for the underdog, vegetables that is. Check it out, try it out, and who know, maybe I'll come back a culinary genius.
So here we are again. It's Monday, and this week I'm brining you one of my newest discoveries.
There's a lot I could say about Jeremy Larson. He claims influences like Sigur Ros and Ben Folds, and they are certainly apparent. His album Salvation Club is a fantastic blend or artistry, emotion, and melody. It reminds me of a lazy Sunday afternoon.
So we're doing another kind of Funny Friday today at Project Unicorn.
It's Crazy Lid Day, and there's some seriously crazy headwear around the office today.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Most Creative, Most Out of Character, and Best Overall. (Of course in true Project U style, we'll be calling out the "Lamest Attempt," with a prize that certainly no one wants to win.)
